Board of Selectmen Meeting
Griffin Room, Town Hall
Friday, December 29, 2006
9:00 a.m.
Town Administrator James Merriam requested an emergency meeting of the Board in order to accept a gift of money from the Wequassett Inn which would allow the Round Cove dredging operation to continue beyond the original contract and scope of work which represented 4,000 cubic yards of material.
The meeting started at 9:00 a.m. in the Griffin Room of Town Hall. Present were Chairman Robin Wilkins, Ed McManus, Larry Cole, David Marsland and Town Administrator James Merriam. Also present were Harbormaster Thomas Leach, Conservation Agent John Chatham and Coastal Engineering representative Beth Hays. Mr. Merriam explained that the Town had a short opportunity to accept a gift from the Wequassett Inn to remove an additional 3,000 cubic yards of material out of the Round Cove channel and deposit it on the Wequassett Inn’s barrier and beach. Otherwise, the Barnstable County dredging operation will pull out this weekend and move its operation to Truro. Mr. McManus moved and Mr. Cole seconded to accept a gift in the amount of $21,000 from the Wequassett Inn to remove an additional 3,000
cubic yards. Mr. Leach confirmed these facts, except now, the estimated quantity of dredge materials has been revised downward to 2,000 cubic yards and the Wequassett Inn gift was reduced to $14,000. Therefore, Mr. McManus amended his motion and Mr. Cole amended his second, to accept a gift in the amount of $14,000 from the Wequassett Inn. Mr. Chatham explained that this is a desirable outcome and that all new work will remain within the permit. He responded to Mr. Cole’s question that some of the excess material will be deposited onto Wequassett’s private beach which is east of the barrier spit. The vote was 4-0 in favor of the motion.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:12 a.m.
